Melting the glacier

Today we were in the field all day. It was cloudy and cold in the morning, but as the wind picked up (to about 15 kn) the clouds blue away and we were left with a beautiful, cold, afternoon.

We got the melting probe going and managed to get the hole down to 28 m in 8 hours (which is about the target). We had some issues with the generator overheating, but some re-orienting to the wind solved the issue.

We also did some more pulsing to measure how the refractive index of the ice changes with depth. Overall, a successful if tiring day (we are still at over 11,000 ft pressure adjusted altitude).
