Air Drop

Today the Air National Guard (ANG) did a practice air drop. A C-130 (not designed to land up here, only equipped with wheels). They did a flyby to check out the site and then two more passes with 2 drops per pass. It all seemed to go pretty well and it was very cool.

We also got a tour of the Astronomical Weather Observatory (AWO) from Caleigh to see some of the weather instruments they have out here. It was a nice trip out to the building and it is a pretty cool facility. Despite the amount of activity that happens here over the summer, the Greenland Ice Sheet is still some of the most aerosol free ice in the world

We are scheduled to leave tomorrow. Raven, a training camp on the Greenland ice sheet for the had a flight cancellation yesterday, so we are only getting the one plane up here tomorrow instead of the usual 2. The weather looks OK - strong winds, but they should be straight down the runway, so everything should be OK so long as visibility is reasonable. We are due to get out of here around 17:00.

The C17 home is not until Wednesday, so we have some time for scrubbed planes. Hopefully all will be well and we can get back to sea level on schedule.

Nils has been wanting us to watch Napoleon Dynamite all trip, so tonight is the night........
