Hello from Greenland
Travel to Greenland
They pick you up from your hotel at 5:30 am, have you report to the Stratton Air National Guard base, where everyone is checked in by 7 am, and then we ended up taking off at 11 am. Seems the early start could have been avoided.
We flew in a pretty cramped, uncomfortable, and very loud, LC-130
Due to weight, we had to refuel in Goose Bay, CA, where we were promised ice cream sandwiches, but a storm was rolling in so it was decided we should leave asap to make sure we didn't get stuck.
The flight was 6 hours in all, and actually not too bad. We arrived at 10 pm with the sun still high in the sky (that is going to take some getting used to). They took us straight from the hotel to the place we are staying, and today we are going to go back to the airport to do the actual immigration part (they are not too worried about us running off).
Due to the quirks of scheduling, I am now in Kangerlussaq for a week while they rotate people in and out of Summit station. There are some hikes to do, but I think most of the time will be spent planning for the work up on the glacier.
